It was only a matter of time before Mercedes took the roof off the twin turbo, V12 engine of the S65. The cabriolet version has been revealed by the German manufacturer, featuring the same 6.0L engine as in the Coupe variant.
The added equipment to enable the roof to fold away has added 175KG to the weight of the car, however despite this, Mercedes have said the car will still be able to attain a 0-60MPH time of 4.1 seconds, as in the S65 Coupe. The standard cabriolet will be limited to 155MPH, however owners can opt for a Driver’s Package which adds uprated tyres and increases the top speed of the vehicle to 186MPH.
The folding fabric roof can be operated at speeds up to 31MPH, and takes approximately 17 seconds to operate. The car is set to go on sale in the UK in April, and there are no current prices, however with the S65 Coupe starting at £183,000, it is expected that the convertible will be close to the £200,000 mark.
